Steeped in history and culture, Washington D.C. was designed by Pierre L’Enfant in 1791 and divided into four quadrants, NE, NW, SE and SW.
There are four quadrants in the District, NW,SW,NE and SE. U.S. states are represented by street names, like New York, Connecticut, and,Wisconsin, and, run diagonally. Streets running north to south are numbered streets. Streets west and east are lettered streets. All numbered streets begin at the U.S. Capitol.
