Before working in real estate, I had a career in radio broadcasting. At one point, I was the news director of a major rock station in Washington D.C. writing and delivering newscasts from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. I interviewed celebrity guests and chatted with my associates on the morning show. 

Oddly enough, on-air broadcasting can be lonely work. Most of the time, I worked in a soundproof studio. There were many days of the week I saw and spoke to only a few people. 

However, the radio station was the most popular rock station in Washington D.C. and broadcast to an audience of over thirty thousand people.  

While I was working on-air, I didn’t think about the audience. But when I introduced bands on stage and hosted events for the station, the audience became very real for me. I met hundreds of people who treated me like a friend. They shared personal stories and told me I was their source for news and current events. This made sense as I was in their ear while they dressed for work, drove to the office and settled into their morning routine. 

The best part of my radio career was meeting the audience and hearing their stories. 

Today, the connections I make with home buyers gives meaning and purpose to my work. My clients know I am on their side. Buyer focused real estate is unconventional, but it makes perfect sense to me.
