Fells Point is Baltimore's most historically authentic neighborhood a living maritime village of cobblestone streets, 18th-century row houses, working waterfront, and legendary taverns. Founded in 1730 byWilliam Fell, a Quaker ship builder from Lancashire, England, Fells Point was Baltimore's original waterfront and ship building center, producing the famous Baltimore Clippers the fastest sailing ships of their era. The neighborhood was home to a vibrant community for two centuries, and today retains its eclectic, creative character with a thriving restaurant and nightlife scene, independent shops, and a popular Saturday farmers market on Broadway Square.
Fells Point is a National Register Historic District and one of the best-preserved 18th- and 19th-century commercial and residential waterfronts in the country. Housing ranges from beautifully restored Federal-period row homes to contemporary condominiums along the waterfront.
Historical Points of Interest
• Frederick Douglass lived and worked in Fells Point: The future abolitionist was enslaved in Fells Point as a young man, working in the shipyards. He later described learning to read here as the beginning of his path to freedom.
• Robert Long House (c. 1765): Preservation Society of Fell's Point is the oldest surviving urban residence in Baltimore; open for tours.
• The Admiral Fell Inn (1770 origins): Admiral Fell Inn is a complex of historic buildings near the waterfront, now a boutique hotel, illustrating the neighborhood's maritime heritage.
• Broadway Market (est. 1786): Broadway Market is one of Baltimore's oldest public markets, operating on Broadway since the 18th century.

• Baltimore Charm City Circulator (Purple Route): Charm City Circulator — Free circulator connects Fells Point to downtown Baltimore and Harbor East.
